Essential Responsibilities:

As part of the EHS On-Job Trainee you will be joining a fast paced environment as part of our partners'* EHS team. In this role, you will have an opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals within the field of Environmental, Health & Safety. You will be a part of their team, you will learn from the team and the team expects to learn from you as well!

In this role, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to); - Under partner's guidance, you will be working on a project that will consist of reviewing Site Risk Assessments (SRA), also known as Job Safety Analyses.

The assessments cover almost every activity on the site and will expose you to many Occupational Health & Safety Elements and how they are integrated within everything that our partners do.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a University program (Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Sciences, Ergonomics
  • Senior year in an OHS program (last year or completed program)
  • Excellent MS Office Skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • A forward thinking and results oriented individual
  • English or French language** based on the Province the Co-Op is available: Level 7 or more in Canadian Bench Mark or 6 in IELTS)
  • List of partners will be provided upon request
  • Students that are not meeting language requirements will be enrolled in an English course in a Canadian University selected by GHC based on availability.

Period:Maximum of 4 Months

Fees: to be determined based on the industry and the period of the program

Visa: Is the responsibility of the trainee

Joint Commission Accreditation (JCA)

  • Hospital Accreditation Standards (Canada Accreditation and JCIA standards).
  • When planning demolition, construction, or renovation, the hospital uses risk criteria that address the impact of construction activities.
  • Air quality requirements.
  • Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA).
  • Utility requirements and emergency procedures.
  • Noise and vibration.
  • Interim life safety measures.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA)

  • Guidelines for design and construction of healthcare facilities.
  • During the planning phase of a project, after carefully considering the facility’s patient population and programs, the owner shall provide an Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA).

There are many options that can be added to our contracts for our clients who have more complex needs including but not limited to:

  • Training your environmental health team on biological air sampling.
  • Training your environmental health team on water sampling in dialysis units and in Reverse Osmosis units.
